The Desert National Wildlife Refuge, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Las Vegas,  was established to ensure  and protect habitat for the Desert Bighorn Sheep, (Ovis canadensis nelsonii - locally).

 

The Visitor Center serves as an Interpretive Center  and stocks books and other materials relative to the area.  The Visitor Center is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:00am till' 1:00pm.
